This is Zeus.
Zeus is a 1969 Beetle that is a very neat machine.

Or to sum it up for the non-gear head...

Zeus has a very strong mild performance engine that was built for longetivity and a bit of extra power.
Top level parts and everything balanced and tuned to perfection.

The other thing that makes Zeus special is the details...the spots you dont normally look.
The restoration quality on this car is very very nice.
This was not a quick "fluff and buff" restoration of some old beater.
The car started out as a fantastic all original car, super solid, super straight, and the work done to it was
done with an eye for quality.

Check out the fit of the carpet and the cleanliness of the hardware in the door jams.

The differences between this car and the rest are subtle, but after seeing it up close
you really understand that this one was done "right"!

The factory sunroof is a great option and this one has been fully rebuilt and works great.

The custom seats are really comfortable and look great...a very nice upgrade from the stockers.
The back seat has been removed and a custom carpeted rear deck installed.
This of course could be switched back to a set if you really wanted such a thing, the body was not modified.

I like the special touches such as the steering wheel and the matching shift knob.
The cool "bare feet" clutch and brake pedal pads are fun too.

These just slip on over the stock pedals.

Here is a better view of the steering wheel...nice!!

Check out the paint detail on the shifter and hand brake...no stone left unturned.

Outside the mild mannered Zeus is understated and clean.
The body trim has been removed and holed professionally welded and sealed...the front signals
shaved off the top of the fenders...but other than that...it is all stock.

The painted bumper and headlight rings are another minor change that modernize the look just a pinch
without changing the classic design of the car.

The paint quality on this car is really top notch.
Super straight and super glossy smooth...the body guy knows his craft well.

Another minor change is the filling of the cut outs for the stock exhaust on the rear apron.
The apron is now smooth and the exhaust is neatly tucked under the fender.

There are so many custom Beetles out there that are built to be flashy.
I like that of course, I love them all, but this car stands out in the crowd because of it's simplicity.
It is just so clean and basic.

The shaving of the VW logo on the hood...another subtle touch.

The VDO tachometer fitted in the dash...again...so low key and clean.

Speaking of clean...check out the bottom of the car!
This car was built to be a driver, not a trailer queen, so the chassis was undercoated
but you can see it is very smooth underneath...this was a super solid car to start with.

Love it...this is what I like to see... solid underbelly, no rust, no repairs.

The amber topped taillight lenses add a little color to the back,

The bumpers have the rubber impact strip in place.
There are a couple of stone chips that have been touched up like the couple you see here on the bumper.
No major damage anywhere though...just proof that this car is a driver.

Speaking of driving...the owner of this car drove the car down to see us for inspection and he drove it quite a long way.
Round trip I bet it was a good 200 plus miles. When he pulled up in the driveway it was running smooth and cool
and that is a very good sign that the car is a good strong runner. He says he would not hesitate to drive
this car across the country if needed. The car runs and drives strong.

OK...back to the details...under the front hood it is well dialed in too.

Check out the clean restored jack!!

Hood hinge detail...nice!

Inside the bumpers...clean.

Horn and fender well

A little road dirt on the inner fender...but this will wipe right off if you are into that level of detail.

Modern style mirror

Great interior

Love that nice carpet

Twinkle toes!
Look how clean the pedal assembly is too.

The wheels are late model "sport" wheels that are wider than stock.
These have been powdercoated in silver and truly look like new.

Auxillary oil filter in the fender well.
Braided stainless lines.

Detail of the smoothed out rear apron.

Under the engine is super clean!
Check out the deep oil sump and rear sway bar off in the distance.

the engine compartment is very clean and detailed as well.

Scat degree pulley.

Super cool oil breather and filler!

Fuel pressure regulator

Built to go...not flashy and blinged out...just clean and well done.

The car originally had pop out windows in it and rather than have holes in the headliner the owner
crafted thse cool block offs from some old hinges.

Here is a 1st place award at a local show... yes...it shows and goes!

Sorry for the blurry shot here but this is the bottom of the back seat panel that was built to finish off the back area.
It comes out easily and covers the battery area perfectly.

Clean latches,

New screws..."timed" just so so they line up with each other.

Ultra clean around the hinges.

All new window seals and felts.

If you look super close on the sunroof panel where it is sliding into the roof you can see what looks like
a little patch...this is a thin protective vinyl that helps the sunroof panel from getting scratched if opened
too harshly... this guy thought of everything!

High quality rubber on all four corners

H4 headlamps and slick little bumper mounted turn signals.

Looks at that reflection down the side...smoooooth!

What a nice car.
Oh...another detail...
In this photo you can see that the engine lid is not shut all the way...
The owner has a simple rubber ball cut to slip over the back side of the lid latch
This keeps the lid open just a hair for added ventilation, but is easily removed so the lid can shut firmly.

Uhhh...yeah...its clean!

Hre you can see the back seat panels in place...looks great!

OK...so do you like Zeus?
You really should...I sure do.
This is a great car. High quality inside and out, built to be driven
and enjoyed by someone with a desire for something more than your average Beetle.
